Power of Jesus Around the World Church
Started in the year 1964, Power of Jesus around the world church has grown over the years from humble beginnings to what it is today. What a long name for a church? One might say, but the founders did not see it that way. They saw a big world needing Jesus. By any standard, Power of Jesus Around the World Church is a big church. With its headquarters in Kisumu, Kenya, the church has 1040 branches in the whole of East Africa. Most of these are concentrated in Nyanza Province, but many others can be found in every other part of Kenya and Uganda and Tanzania.
With a membership of over 500,000 Christians in the Republic of Kenya, the church has become a spiritual force to reckon with. The church is a major participant in national functions and inter-denominational endeavors. It has helped to facilitate international Christian conferences and has hosted many international evangelists to preach the gospel in Kenya especially from U.S.A and Britain.
The church is on the forefront in preaching the gospel through mass crusades in markets, public places, home led by the powerful redemption choir. Power of Jesus church is a product of the charismatic revival that swept across Kenya in the early sixties. Dr. Ngede, a product of that era was one of the pioneers of Power of Jesus around the world church. He first served as a pastor in a local church in the city of Nairobi for many years. He later became the secretary general of the church. During this time the church experienced an unprecedented growth both in number and strength.
In December 29th 1979 Dr. Ngede was unanimously elected the national chairman and Bishop of the church. Now the Bishop, he set up development programs, a technical college and a nursery school. To effectively accomplish the mission of the church to reach lost souls, the Bishop rose up strong evangelistic teams comprising of young preachers and teachers of the word of God. These youthful ministers, through the burden laid in their hearts, go out to every part of Kenya preaching the gospel to every people.
